"Where's Marlon" mixed media, 2005

Enlarged to 4' x 8' banner for display at Lollapalooza Festival, 2006

Like most people, I was glued to the news after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. I drew this little piece while listening to an emotional NPR story about the fate of musicians in New Orleans after the storm. Several prominent jazzers were interviewed, and a few expressed concern about their friend, Marlon, who had not been heard from since the hurricane struck. The story ended with a quote, "where's Marlon?" My sister, Ginger, is a professional cellist and my sister, Ann, plays celtic fiddle. Music is a close friend of mine and through my siblings, I've gotten to know many musicians and the lives they lead in this country are not easy...

Months later, I submitted this piece to a music-inspired art contest sponsored by Lollapalooza organizers in Chicago. It was selected to be turned into a banner and displayed during the festival among other pieces of art.

This piece was sold at Riviera Gallery in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
